I have broad interests in behavioural ecology, population dynamics and conservation, using mostly birds as model species. My research has focused on:

The functions of calls in nocturnal petrels, and the influence of predation risk on communication strategies,
Paternity assurance strategies in semi-colonial raptors,
The breeding behaviour, ecology and conservation of raptors (ospreys, red kites, harriers...),
The roles of territorial behaviour and parasites in causing the population cycles of red grouse,
The population ecology and conservation of birds in agricultural pseudo-steppes and steppes (red-legged partridges & sandgrouses in Spain; pallid and Montagus´s harriers in Kazakhstan)
The functions of ornaments and the mechanisms ensuring honesty in social signalling.
Changes in vole population dynamics, their relationship with land use and climate changes, and their impact on predators
The effects of lead ingestion on reproduction and immune function in birds
